We are delighted to present Michelle Maddox from the award-winning Clootie McToot Dumplings, Perthshire.
Michelle will demonstrate a Clootie Dumpling being made the way her Gran taught her. There will be lots of tips to make that perfect Clootie Dumpling and serving suggestions.
Michelle explained: “Clootie dumpling gets its name from the cloth it is boiled in; cloot is Scots for cloth.” Many people have fond memories of their grandmothers making it and this is my Granny’s original recipe.
Michelle has never been to Skye before and very much looking forward to visiting the beautiful Island and being part of a vibrant Food Festival.
Clootie McToot Dumplings
Michelle is married and has four beautiful children with whom she lives in the Pictish village of Abernathy on the Perthshire/Fife border. She has gained a number of catering qualifications over the years and achieved a degree with distinction in Food, Health and Welfare. Her inspiration for cooking started with her first work placement on the BBC Food and Drink Show in 2001. Eventually her career took off in a different direction and her joy for traditional Scottish cooking became a hobby. In 2015 her son asked her if she would bake and have a stall at his local school fete. He was keen to be behind a market stall selling goods. Michelle agreed, and they decided to make Clootie dumplings with her family’s traditional recipe. The aroma of sugar and spice and the laughter from her children brought back many fond memories of her own childhood. From that moment on, her inspiration, desire and passion for traditional Scottish cooking was ignited and her business was born
